Kevin and Helen Olssen first visited Australia’s Clare Valley in 1986. They were so taken with the place that within two weeks they decided to sell their family home in Adelaide and move to the Clare's Watervale sub-region. They developed their Bass Hill Vineyard on land offering an ideal combination of elevation, aspect and soil type, as well as proximity to old, high-pedigree vineyards. The Olssens set out to make only the finest quality wines and they have succeeded admirably. The winery has once again earned the coveted 5 Star rating in James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion 2010.
